How to Hang Cabinets
Many homeowners can tackle something as simple as installing base cabinets. But how about wall-mounted ones? With the proper tools and hints from us, you will be able to handle any wall cabinet installation in a snap.
The first thing you should do is attach a ledger level on the wall where you intend to hang your cabinetry, this is a wooden board with the purpose to support your furniture pieces during the installation. Following the carpenter’s and cabinet makers’ rule “Measure three times and cut once” is the right thing to do. You should begin the installation process with a corner cabinet. Depending on the size, you have to drill holes through the cabinet at the top, middle, and bottom, ¾ inch from the edge. You need to do this step for each unit.
Now, you have to drill holes into the wall and drive in the mounting screws, but do not tighten them completely, you can do this later. Tighten them just enough to hold your cabinetry in place. You must check if they are level and plumb. You can shim behind it if necessary.
Your next job will be to set the second unit next to the corner one, once fitted, you should clamp the cabinets together and drive screws into the back. Again, use shims in the back if needed. To keep the faces even, you can utilize a countersink to drill through the face frames and connect them.
You should continue doing that until you reach the end of the row checking all the time if the faces and edges are even. If you see certain gaps between the last cabinet of the row and the wall, don’t worry, filler strips can do the job. Once your cabinetry is connected, you can remove the clamps and ledger board.
